BLOG 4: PREDICTIONS
Now that we are finished with chapter four, it's time to make bold
predictions. What do you see happening in this novel and WHY? What do
you see happening to Taylor, Lou Ann, Mattie, and Turtle? Be sure you
base your predictions on textual evidence from the novel. Lastly, once
again, be thoughtful and reflective.

ReplyDeleteBased on the last four chapters, I see many things happening. I have a feeling that all these characters will eventually meet somehow. Since Taylor and Turtle don't seem to remain in one place, I feel like they'll end up in Tucson, alongside with Lou Ann. Since they both "ended up" as single moms, I feel like they'll both work together in order to make some kind of "powerful woman" movement; eventually I know that they both will come out on top from the flow of the story. They're lives may not have had the perfect start, or perfect lives, but through time I know all the characters will get what they really need and or deserve.
I see a bright future for Taylor and Turtle, only because I've seen the way that Taylor tries to handle the responsibilities of being a "mother." Since Chapter 3 left off with Taylor trying to find a job, I think that she will become successful with it, but also will have a hard time letting Turtle go to complete strangers since they're practically traveling everywhere and only have each other. Taylors going to start becoming more dependent on others to get her and Turtle's future going. I see Taylor making some power moves, such as purchasing a new car and or living in a permanent home. But I also see something bad coming her way, since that's what always happens when a person is at their highest. I feel like she's going to find someone along the way too. Just because she's so prideful, and it happens all the time, she'll probably find a guy through her future job that she'll spend time learning to trust. Due to the amount of stress Taylor might have, she might also become self-deprived as she practically focuses all of her time and attention on Turtle. I have a strong sense that through time, Turtle will start revealing her own little personality, since all she did was eat, hold tight, and remain silent. I feel like all the traveling that they do, and all the people that they meet will teach her how to be social, and interact with other people, even if it's only through certain motions. Taylor's personality will probably start to rub off on Turtle, as Taylor is practically all she has. Although I see an entirely bright future for them, there is also a chance that something could go wrong. For example, since her tires were slashed, and she couldn't go anywhere, she would probably ask to stay with Mattie, which might be completely chaos, or work out completely fine. For all I could know, Turtle could run off due to curiosity leaving Taylor crushed & going crazy looking for her.

DeleteI'm on a rocky road when it comes to Lou Ann. One minute, she could have a sense of pride, and another minute she'll lose it when she comes to Angel, or her family. For example, toward the end of chapter 4, she hears Angel dropping down the water from her grandmother down the drain, and was silent, showing how weak she is at expressing her opinion. She probably felt as though he was draining her past, molding her into a person she didn't know that she could become. Despite the rough time she's having on her own, I feel like she will grow to become more independent and get things done for her and Dwayne Ray. Since Angel is bound to permanently leave anytime soon, I know for sure that Lou Ann will try to raise Dwayne as best as she could so that he doesn't turnout like his father. Dwayne will become the pride and joy that she bases her motivation off of. On the flip side, I also feel like Lou Ann might give up. Since she couldn't even do things on her own while she was pregnant, such as taking off her shoes. I also have a feeling that she might move back "home" with her mother and grandmother since she practically will be alone due to the divorce. Knowing how she acts on her own shows how far she'll get in life. But she'll end up running right back to Angel if he asked for her back. I feel like she's the type of character to never learn since she's always so caught up in trying to impress others and give in to temptation easily due to insecurities she has on her own to deal with.
I feel like Mattie will get provoked somewhere within the story. Even though she's humble and has a very nurturing personality, I feel as if she'll break that barrier due to some problem that might pop up for her little "business." I feel like some of the illegal immigrants that she helps will end up getting caught somehow, which turns her whole life around, forcing her to make new decisions. On the upside of the situation, I also think that she will end up letting Taylor and Turtle stay with her, since she practically runs the business on her own. I feel like Mattie will become the type of character to either change, or remain the same. I also feel like some type of accident will occur around her, or with her involved just because she works around cars and so many random people. She'll probably end up getting recognized by someone that acknowledges her refugee and donates more to keep helping her. I also feel like we'll end up getting to know more about her family life since she seems to have it bottled up. Judging from the Chapter 3, I feel like Mattie will put her nice girl act away, and show a completely different side of her when things go wrong. I want to see how she handles troubles along the way if she has any, because it will show the kind of person she is.
I just have mixed emotions with how they're all going to connect. For all characters, it could practically end up good or bad.
I like this post because I agree that, just as you said, Turtle will need to be taken care of by others rather than Taylor, which could influence Turtle's childhood.
DeleteBy the way the story has been, I have a feeling that all the characters will eventually meet. I think that Lou Ann and Taylor will become great friends and will share their stories with each other. They'll help each other through the situations that they're going through and be strong together. Based on how Taylor acts with Turtle, I think that she is going to be a great mother figure for Turtle and that they'll have a great life together. I think that Taylor will continue to go to Mattie for help and when she needs help. I definitely think there will be a twist with Mattie. Either she is going to leave Taylor behind and stop helping her and everyone else, or Taylor is going to see right through her and stay away from her. I also think that Lou Ann will move back with her parents and try to start a new life there. I'm very excited to see what will actually happen and how all of these characters and stories will combine.

DeleteI feel like there will be a lot of drastic changes in the characters as well as in their actions. I think that there will be a lot of life changing events for all of them. For Taylor, I think that Mattie will convince her to start helping her with the illegal immigration operations that she does. I say this because of the way Mattie responded when Taylor asked if she had any grandkids of her own, and she said "Something like that," and because of how much of a risk-taker Taylor is. It totally sounds like something she would do, so I think that it is a reasonable guess. For Lou Ann, I feel like she will do one or more of four things: 1) Finally stand up to Angel 2) Move back in with her mom and Angel's mom because she can't bear to be alone 3) Get together with the vegetable man and/or 4) Leave Tucson with her son and run into some or all of the other characters in the novel. I say this because she is a bold character as well as not very independent so these events seem pretty practical. For Mattie, I think that she will convince Taylor to take over the illegal immigration operations. I feel like something will happen to Mattie, and Taylor will have to take over her position as the 'boss' of not only the illegal immigration operations, but also the tire shop. I think that she will sort of turn into Taylor's best friend and eventually be like family to her, so losing her will be difficult for Taylor. Finally, for Turtle, I think that she will grow up to be a strong and independent woman, just like Taylor and Mattie. I see a really bright future for her, filled with positivity and opportunities. I think the same goes for Taylor as well. I hope my predictions are correct, because if they are, then it will really be interesting to see how everything pans out. Actually, I think however it turns out, it will be interesting all the same.

DeleteAfter reading the chapter, it really seems like Lou Ann's life was really high at one point and is now falling. On the other hand, Taylor's life started from the bottom and is now escalating slowly. The at one point, the two ladies will meet! As Taylor progresses forward and Lou Ann goes back, the two will meet and my prediction will be that they will support each other, go through rough times together, stay together like one big happy family, and start a new generation for themselves and their newborns, where they will change society and create a better world for themselves and others.

DeleteI like this as it gives some reasons and history as to how they will meet and and why it will happen. I like the way that the two will cross paths, and it sounds like really in depth thinking.
DeleteConnecting all four of the chapters i predict Lou Ann and Taylor to meet further on with the story. Taylor and Turtle constantly moving from place to place, i think they will eventually be stuck in Tuscon then meet Lou Ann somehow. Being introduced to both Taylor and Lou Ann, they come out as two different people. Despite their differences i think they share the same goal to forget their past and move on to a brighter future. With this in mind, as the author hints that Lou Ann and Taylor will meet in time i think they will get along very well. Taylor and Lou Ann both struggle having a child to raise on their own. With very little support, further within the story, i think they both will learn the values of responsibility , love, care, and many more. Mattie may just be that person to connect these two characters with her bright personality. Although she provides shelter for illegal immigrants, i can see her giving people a chance to strive for a better future. For those who are struggling, she is there to help them. I predict that Mattie will be introduced to Lou Ann and get insights on her background. Having two similar issues with Taylor and Lou Ann will connect these two readers. Will conflict arise within these two characters or will they result in friendship?
ReplyDeleteRight now I think that the novel is still establishing the back story of the women who are going to soon cross paths. Chapter 4 establishes so much information about Lou Ann like where she came from, who she was raised by, and how she was treated by her parents when she was a child. Lou Ann also comes to a realization that she never wanted to move out because of her fear of being alone due to her divorce. She wishes she could have stayed at her parent's house and get married there, like her mother and father did. This highlights the fact that Lou Ann is a very dependent person.
ReplyDeleteI think that when both Taylor and Lou Ann meet, Taylor will become a support system for Lou Ann, helping Lou Ann build herself into a more independent person. Mattie will probably get caught for helping illegal immigrants into the United States. Maybe something bad might happen to Turtle at the daycare while Taylor is working.
I like how you introduced the topic with a little bit of background info. After you introduced them, you went straight to the topic and stated your opinion clearly. Good Job!
DeleteThe analysis of Lou Ann was very well don and the predictions are reasonable based on what we've read so far.
DeleteI feel that, since Lou Ann feels so trapped in this life and marriage with Angel, she is going to try and leave him by running off with her child and trying to find a life outside of the inside of her house. My guess is that Lou Ann will gravitate towards trying to get back to where she came from and being with familiar people that help fill the void in her life. And along the way, I predict, she will run into Taylor and Turtle, who are on the road to finding something more in their lives as well. They will probably be able to help each other and relate to one another quite well since they are both in similar situations: they both must take care of children on their own and are trying to find better lives for themselves. And this also relates to the subject of how a family does not have to be a mother, a father, and their children. Maybe the two women will become each other's family and help each other move forward.
ReplyDeleteBased on the story so far, I think that Lou Ann and Taylor will eventually meet because they have similarities and they go through quite similar situations. They will probably support each other and have successful futures because of all that they have been through. I also think that Taylor will continue to take good care of Turtle and will end up having a much better future. As for Mattie, I think that she will continue to care for illegal immigrants but might eventually get caught. I understand that all she is trying to do is help out because she's a caring person. On the other hand, I have a feeling that there will be some type of twist to this story that will be shocking and unexpected.
ReplyDeleteI believe the same thing that you do and this is why i chose yours. We have pretty much the same predictions and this is a good example. It gives good detail why they will meet and how they will grow together.

DeleteI predict that obviously they will meet and become attracted to each other, as best friends. Mattie will most likely become the "Mom" figure. And Perhaps Lou Ann's baby, and Turtle will become friends. I think that they might move in together and perhaps that will be the answer to Taylor's problems with both a car, and a home. They will be a good team/ mix together because they have opposite personalities. Taylor is the more outgoing type of person who is a strong independent woman. And Lou Ann is a more subdued, clingy person. So i feel that they will learn a lot from each other, and in the end have a great friendship.

But despite how good that would work, I also think that they would cause LOT'S of trouble together and get into lot's of conflict. I like the outcome that you said; "they will learn a lot from each other." It will definitely be a bumpy road!
DeleteAfter I reading these four chapters I think Lou Ann and Taylor will meet each other and they will be friend in the future. They have different attitude for the life but they have the similar experience, so I think they can more understand each other. Taylor lives far from her home but she has two good friends (Mattie and Sandi) can take care of her and Turtle. Mattie likes Turtle’s grandmother that she can give some useful suggestions to Taylor. The good thing for Taylor is she is an optimistic person, it can let her find some interesting things to make her life better. Contras Taylor, Lou Ann lives near to her family. Her mother will come to her house and see her and her baby. But Lou Ann’s baby is so young; she needs to notice the baby every moment. The bad thing for Lou Ann is she worried many things that make she unhappy. That her life will become negative. Also I think Lou Ann’s mother will know she already divorce with Angel and tell her live with them.
ReplyDeleteBased on the lay out of the story, Mattie, Lou Ann and Taylor's paths are abound to intercept with each other's. I am unsure of how though. I have a feeling that they will somehow be connected by some form of work. I believe that Lou Ann nigh meet Mattie at her tire shop at the same moment that Taylor is there. I also feel like the two babies will connect in some way. I honestly am having a hard time predicting what will happen next, but i feel like there will be some drastic changes soon.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Lou Ann and Taylor will cross paths one day and become friends because they're basically in the same boat and they probably have some sort of connection because of it. Mattie will probably be another mother figure for Turtle and will influence her in a good way. Maybe Turtle will be given a new name, since Taylor was too embarrassed to tell anyone what she had nicknamed her. I think that later on, if Taylor and Lou Ann meet, that they will move somewhere else and live together to escape their present lives. I also feel like Mattie will get in trouble for being too nice to people and she might get into a situation that might endanger her or Taylor and Turtle. Her kindness may be mistaken for a weakness and she can't let that happen.

DeleteAfter reading the first four chapters in the book, I predict that Lou Ann and Taylor will both meet each other sometime soon. Since they both are in the same situation at this point, I think both will give/share each others ideas and stories. Pretty sure that both of them would become great friends sooner or later. Lou Ann's baby and turtle can be friends as they grow up. Mattie will probably be the mom figure. Yet, she is eventually get caught for all those illegal immigrations. She is very caring and independent and that she is just trying to help everyone out. But there will soon be a twist to this story.

Thinking bout it mattie would be more of a motherly figure that either taylor or lou ann would be. both girls have to find a way to support their daughters and figure out a way to get help in the new city that their living in

DeleteAfter reading chapter four, I predict that Lou Ann and Taylor will probably meet up and live together. Lou Ann will probably start getting lonely because she is alone with her baby and probably try to make an advertisement to let people rent her house to make some money. Since Taylor doesn't really have any place to stay besides Hotel, she will probably stay at Lou Ann's house and they will probably work together. Lou Ann will probably take care of the kids and Taylor will probably go to work to help pay for things. I'm not sure how Mattie will fit into things, but she will probably help them by teaching them how to take care of their kids since they don't have any experience.

DeleteI think I think that it is destined for Lou Ann and Taylor to meet since they are both living in the same town. I also think that Turtle's and Taylor's futures are going to get brighter. I think that Lou Ann will put herself out in public more and then she will eventually meet Taylor, and then Taylor will probably find a way to live with her. Lou Ann would probably let her stay there because she is lonely and she would want the help with raising her child.

DeleteAfter i have read Chapter 4, I have noticed a number of events happening. One thing about these events is that most of them or all of them were meant to be. For example, Lou Ann and Taylor were two different people with different personalities, but they are in the same situation. I fee like they were meant to be friends because since they have nearly the same issue, they can relate to each other, and go to each other for support. Its funny how Mattie isn’t in the same situation as the other two people. This is because i see Mattie as a better mother than Taylor and Lou Ann. Turtle is just caught in the middle of all of this. She has been looked up to as an inspiration to keep going because of how she has been able to endure all that has been going on. I predict that even though Taylor and Mary Lou are still learning how to become better parents to their children, because i think that Mattie will become a role model to them and how good she supports people in general.

DeleteAfter reading chapter four i predict that Mattie will end up being more of a motherly figure by the end of the story then either Taylor or Lou Ann will be. I feel that the story will be centered around Taylor and Lou Ann, while leaving the children to the side, only to come back later in the climax of the story. I believe that both Lou Ann and Taylor are capable mothers because of their own personal independence, however I don't see them interacting with the children as much because the kids were not necessarily wanted under these conditions, so they will "dump" off the children to Mattie.

DeleteAfter reading this chapter I think that Taylor and Lou Ann's path will cross at some point. I think that they will become good friends as they can relate to each other in a big way because of their kids. I think that Mattie will continue to be a mother figure for Taylor, but I do think that Mattie will get in trouble with the authorities as she illegally smuggles immigrants. After this Taylor will get lost and won't know what to do and who to go for help. Because of this I think that Lou Ann will move somewhere else, either to California or back to Kentucky. I can see that Taylor might move somewhere but I think it is a lot less likely.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading chapter four i believe that Taylor and Lou Ann will soon be meeting each other and when they do they will probably be staying together for a while since they both have similarities and both are independent mothers. Lou Ann and Taylor will probably help each other out with the children and i see both of them depending on Mattie's skills and experience with children. As for Mattie she may get in trouble with the authorities because of keeping those immigrants with her and if she does that may cause for a bigger problem for everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe first four chapters build up to Lou Ann and Taylor meeting each other, since they're both in the same situation, with a child. Lou Ann has had her baby boy, Dwayne Ray, and Taylor has Turtle. Since Taylor and Turtle are constantly moving I think they're going to stop locally where Lou Ann is. Taylor is a tough and independent character that didn't really care, and I think some of Taylor personality will influence and help Lou Ann stop being a pessimist and cautious, and changing her into a less worrying individual and just able to enjoy life a little more. Also, Lou Ann will help Taylor think about the future and how things will affect her life in the long run with Turtle.

I feel like maybe Lou Anne and Taylor will meet through Mattie or like she might meet somewhere else like the mall or the burger joint. I feel like if Lou Anne and Taylor will become and good friends and will help each other support their kids. i honestly cannot say much because i cannot really see how they will meet or how they will react with each other because the are quite different.
ReplyDeleteTaylor and Lou Ann will soon meet up within the next couple of chapters. They will become good friends because of their similarities and will stay friends throughout the story. Their kids will grow up together and become best friends. Lou Ann and Taylor will live together and work out all of their problems. The main thing is that they will become best friends and will grow up in a life of happiness.

This response a simple, short and to the point that not only were Lou Ann and Taylor going to become great friends but Turtle and the baby that is not born yet are also going to become like sisters. It touched the topic of family.

DeleteBased on how he story is going I think that Lou Ann will keep going on the downhill and at her lowest point she will meet Taylor. Both of them will support each other in the raising of Turtle and Not-born-yet hopefully Lou ann will find, with the help of taylor, that she doesn't need to depend on others, and that she is totally capable of fending for herself. Mattie's sketchy behavior will show up again and the book may shed some light onto the illegal immigration. It may possibly involve law enforcement
ReplyDeleteI can see Lou ann and Taylor moving in with each other. They will become something like roomates it seems like. Since turtle is older it sounds like turtle is going to have to wait before they can interact with each other. With angel gone it will be a something like a family.

ReplyDeleteWhat I can see with this book is that Taylor and Lou Ann end up getting along and they will live with each other. Why I this is going to happen is that when they get to know each other better. What will happen is they know what type of situation they are in. They will end up knowing that they will need each other knowing that they both are single and have children.
